MDB RS-232

Technical description

The MDB-to-RS232 converter is used to connect MDB-compatible peripheral devices such as coin validators, banknote acceptors and card readers to a control system with a serial RS232 or USB interface.

1. Interface compatibility:
   The adapter supports both direct connection to an RS232 interface of a PC or mainboard and connection to systems with a USB port via a USB-RS232 converter.

2. Virtual COM port:
   When using a USB connection, a virtual COM port can be set up on the PC or the control board using a USB-RS232 adapter.

3. Supported protocols and devices:
   The converter supports MDB-compliant devices such as coin validators, banknote acceptors, cash interfaces (10H, 60H) and USD interfaces (40H).

4. Features:
   The serial connection allows the host system to control and manage devices such as coin acceptors, change dispensers, smart card readers, magnetic card readers, credit card readers, as well as banknote validators and acceptors.

5. Standards compliance and compatibility:
   The device complies with NAMA-MDB specifications and is fully compatible with all vending machines and systems that implement the MDB protocol. The package includes connection cables, a user manual, and a user agreement.

6. Multi-device capability:
   A single MDB-to-RS232 converter allows the connection of up to eight (8) MDB-compatible devices.

7. Protocol implementation:
   The adapter serves as an interface converter and converts the MDB communication protocol of vending machines into the serial RS232 protocol.

8. Operating mode:
   The device operates as a slave unit within the main control system. Any control system that supports serial RS232 communication (e.g., a PC or an embedded system) can act as the master.

9. Specific application:
   The adapter is specifically designed to convert the MDB protocols of banknote acceptors (BA) and coin changer systems into serial RS232 communication and serves as a slave component in the central control network.
